Real Time Calculator for MindManager X5 and X5 Pro
May 31, 2007

Since its introduction in 2001, the Real-Time Calculator has become a favorite add-in for thousands of MindManager users.

Why? Because it's the easiest way to calculate while you brainstorm!

What's 22 times 3.124?

Just type {22 * 3.124} in any MindManager branch and it calculates 68.728 immediately...and that's just the start!

Our incredibly inventive users have built...

  • stock-market monitors,

  • What-If? financial models

  • corporate dashboards,

  • financial simulations,

  • math teaching maps and

  • scientific calculators

... using this flexible tool and made it a must-have for engineers, students and anyone involved in performing daily calculations.

Try it out! It's easy to use and a lot of fun!

Real-Time Calculator is now a standard tool in many financial firms, schools and government offices, running in a majority of Fortune 100 companies and scientific institutions like NASA and the Canadian Space Agency.

Note: This program is available as a BETA DOWNLOAD. We expect a full purchasable release by March 14th, 2005

Can your MindManager do this?

A Brief Tour

Originally designed to help you brainstorm mathematic calculations the same way you brainstorm ideas, it’s evolved to become a way to visually demonstrate complex relations in a way that everyone sitting in a conference room can understand quickly.

The latest version for MindManager X5 and X5 Pro sports many new features that our users have asked for including:

Friendly Capabilities

·         Reusable Smart Parts can now be made from any real-time calculator formula in seconds.

·         Read/only lock prevents topics from being accidentally over-written by the user

·         Floating Edit Topic Properties dialog allows you to edit variables and formulas in multiple topics without opening and closing it.

Programming Capabilities

·         A built-in debugger that instantly jumps to the topic causing an error.

·         The ability to define functions, classes and procedures within the same topic using new “bracket” commands

·         Internet access functions for web page access, project management

In general, if your computer can run MindManager X5, it can run Real-Time Calculator too!

Tradition has it that the best way to get to know this product is to jump right in and use it, so let’s take a “Grand Tour”.

Assuming you’ve followed the installation instructions, you should see a dark blue calculator icon in the Export Toolbar of your MindManager X5 or X5 Pro the next time you start it.

(The icon tells you the system is active, and we’ll click it a bit later on in the tour)

Before you go any further, tap your INSERT key to create a new branch in MindManager and type {2+2} (Note the use of “squiggly brackets” in the formula)

Now hit your ENTER key. You should see the answer “4”

You’ve learned the first basic rule of Real Time Calculator which is

Rule#1: Any mathematical formula you place in-between
“squiggly brackets” is calculated automatically and the result shown in the branch!

Now try a more complex formula such as:

Hit the ENTER key and the answer appears instantly:

Wow, that’s cool, isn’t it? From now on, instead of running for a calculator, you can simply type a formula into MindManager and see the answer instantly

…but…where did that formula disappear to?

When you typed in {25 + 32 - 8 / 2 * 5}, it disappeared after you typed ENTER.

In fact, the formula is still there, hiding inside the MindManager topic you just typed into…would you like to see it?

Now, is a good time to click that dark blue icon you see on your Export Toolbar!

Hint: Clicking the Calculator icon on the Export Toolbar pops up the “Edit Topic Properties” dialog that allows you to edit the variable name and formula of a particular MindManager Cell.
