Have you created HAL 9000 yet?

No, though HAL was definitely one of the inspirations for this software! In the movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey, HAL 9000 was a computer who was responsible for an entire ship's health, and one of the best reasons to use emotion technology in software is to build systems that "care". Humans are emotional creatures, and they respond very quickly to emotion content in speech and written text. People automatically respond to a computer system that uses emotion terms as if it were human. It is our contention that once the mathematics of emotion is understood by a wide audience, that you'll start to see many more applications that act with emotion.
